Honesty Will Set You Free

by: Stephanie Lynn Keefe

“Honesty, is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue” ~ Billy Joel

It has come to my awareness that this day is National Honesty Day.  First and foremost, as much as I dig Billy Joel I cannot accept, believe or even become a participant to and of those lyrics.

How will you be celebrating this Honesty Day?  To me, Honesty is the gateway to living a strong, long and peaceful existence.  To make up “little white” lies or even worse, “larger than life” lies is a sin.  To believe in those lies are senseless, useless and more often than not, hurtful.  Lies are self provoked; a life sentence in a very dark world.

Honesty vs. deception = Light vs. dark:  I personally have found myself succumbing to both sides but the Light always surpasses, prevails and leads me unto such a powerful, positive and Honest path.  We all, at times carry our “dark passengers” along with us but it shouldn’t take you long to realize that the longer “it” rides with you the deeper you suffer.  Honesty sparks Honor, commitment and a taste of pride whereas lies indicate loss of self worth and realistic senses.

I try to embrace Honesty on a daily basis without remorse or regret, allowing it its own personal breathing space.  I respect Honesty and in turn, it respects me back, filling me with hope and inspiration.  Honesty has always been a huge part of my character and for that I am truly grateful.  However, honesty has its side effects.  I tend to sometimes be quite brassy, bold and blatant with my Honor which could very well backfire and cause harm; even to the strongest of strong.

I mean, what does one actually receive when a lie escapes their breath?  A wholesome feeling or one of disgust, quickly followed by (what I would hope to be) guilt?  Honesty is as refreshing as a cool, sparkling pond on a 90 degree day, cascading serenely on its way to freedom.  “The truth will indeed set you free,” and on this day, while I’m reflecting on what a wonderful, Honest life I’ve been handed I will find myself celebrating all the goodness that comes along with it.  Love, friendships, air and sunshine, just to name a few.

So, how about you?  Will you be in need of any repenting this day or are you fully sate in your Honest, guilt-free mind?  How will you be traveling on this National day of Honesty?  Will you be weighed down by a heavy heart or will you welcome your invincible, undeniable convictions of truth?

My Honesty is my light and I intend to follow it.  May your light lead the way to all that is pure, freeing and Honest.  Much peace.

I moved to San Tan Valley from Cape Cod, Massachusetts at the end of October, 2010.  I married on Valentine's day of 2011 and have begun a whole new chapter of life.  Since moving here I have had to juggle marriage, kids and the atmospheric changes and environment.  I love to horseback ride, write, read, hike, take photos and meet new people.
