Over the years, Boyce Thompson Arboretum has observed the final hours of daylight on the Summer Solstice with music ranging from surf guitar to a drum circle featuring a lively crew of percussionists.

Thursday, June 21, brings something new: the sax-andguitar stylings of Interpolacion, the husband and wife duo of Ed Curran and Hermalene Wick.

They moved to Florence two years ago after living in Mexico for two decades, and have earned accolades for their unique blend of Curran’s alto saxophone and Wick’s classical guitar.

Interpolacion will share their unique take on modern jazz from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the Smith Building flagstone patio, shaded by massive trees that flank each side.

Arboretum staff will have bistro  tables and chairs set up for visitors to bring a picnic dinner, or, better still, help support nearby restaurants with takeout.

These restaurants are all about five minutes away on U.S. Highway 60 in the scenic copper-mining town of Superior.

Daily admission of $9 includes the evening music at no additional charge; summer hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, but on June 21 the arboretum will remain open until 7:30 p.m.

Annual memberships start at $45 and include a pair of one-time-use guest passes to bring friends or family. Read about weekend nature walks, photography classes and other events at ag.arizona.edu/bta, or connect at  facebook.com/boycethompsonarboretum.

Want more live music at BTA?

Annual members: mark June 30 on your calendar for the return of the Uno-Dos brothers with an evening concert that will be followed by a blacklight scorpion walk guided by Mesa resident Dave Oberpriller.
