A Facebook post on March 17, 2021 by Arizona Speedway and ET Motopark owner, Jonah Trussel, sent shockwaves through San Tan Valley. Trussel announced that the track would be closing, permanently, April 4, 2021.
Over the last year, we have all heard of numerous business closing their doors as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However in Trussel's situation, that is not the case. "The Arizona State Land Department has decided that the facility and noise it produces does not fit into their neighboring development plan and no further negotiations will be had", said Trussel. The last event will be held April 3, 2021.
"This is some sad news to wake up to", posted Eric Lang. "Thank you jonah for all you have done. When things wernt looking good for dirt track racing in arizona you stepped up and gave us a place to go."
"Losing ANOTHER motocross track is awful news," commented Todd Foster. "I'm at a loss for words, and VERY disappointed in this decision by the AZ State Land Dept."
"This is horrible!" Jessica McCormick Tadlock commented. "You were there first!!"
ET Motopark has been part of the motorsports community for 20 years and Arizona Speedway has been part of that same community since April of 2011. They have held thousands of motocross practices and events, nearly 400 dirt track events, more than 100 mud bog and sand drag events and a long list of other events and functions.
"Thank you to everyone for years of support from myself and my family," said Trussel. "We will likely see you somewhere again in the future! We hope to see everyone at one, some, any and better yet all of the remaining events listed below.
