The San Tan Valley Democrats meeting, Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., features two women running for the Arizona State House. Their life experience is relevant to major news themes this year.

Dr. Helen Hunter is a community organizer, social justice advocate, seasoned pastor, board-certified chaplain, and businesswoman. She served on the Mesa Police Department Use of Force Committee and as President of the East Valley NAACP. She is a candidate in District 16, which includes San Tan Valley, a part of Queen Creek now in Pinal County, Gold Canyon, Apache Junction, and east Mesa.

Sharon Girard practiced as a Physicians Assistant for 30 years. She spent decades working in emergency rooms in small rural communities and helped introduce the PA profession to the UK. She is a candidate in District 8, which includes most of Pinal County, including San Tan Valley and reaches up to Globe.
